The Filmhouse

The Filmhouse on Lothian Road is an independent publicly funded cinema. Each year it is the home of the Edinburgh International Film Festival.
It shows a wide range of art-house, foreign and classical movies as well as second screenings of some mainstream films.
It opened in 1979 with a 100 seat auditorium and has since expanded to a 3 screen cinema.
The café bar is a pleasant place to relax for a coffee or pint, and offers reasonably priced food, including vegetarian options.
It has played host to a number of famous movie stars and film directors including:

* Martin Scorsese
* James Mason
* Sean Connery
* Tilda Swinton
